Holiday Advice

Christmas tree shopping with Melina this afternoon.The tree we had last year seemed to lose an excessive number of needles, so we mentioned that to the tree sellers. The first guy told us “you have to put it in water right away, you moron,” or words to that effect. (I may be paraphrasing here…). The second seller told us “Well, you know they’re dead right? How fresh do you think you are going to look three weeks after you are dead?” (Again, I may be paraphrasing…) But we did get a tree. It’s in the bathtub now getting a good soaking…

Up on the Housetop

Sunny and mild today (38 degrees F.), but snow is expected tomorrow through Saturday, so this was the day to plant daffodils and hang Christmas lights.
I am sure that 30 years ago when someone planted those hemlock trees on either side of the front door they were cute little seedlings. Now they are way too big and way too close to the house, so we are thinking of moving the house back ten feet or so….

A Day with the Barn Moms

6:30 am and we’re here at some barn for another Interscholastic Equestrian Association competition. Melina will ride in two events, cross rails and flat. Neither involves roping a steer.Between the two events she will ride for a total of 14 minutes or so while I will spend ten hours in an unheated barn chatting with the barn moms…

Joan Baez

Ventured out of the Bubble last night with my lovely bride and trekked to Playhouse Square to see Joan Baez in concert. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find my Birkenstocks.
Ms. Baez is 75-years-old, but she has the appearance, mannerisms, and spirit of someone decades younger. That commitment to social justice must be keeping her young…
